Rather than answering in one pass, an agent plans, calls a tool, reads the result and decides what to do next, repeating until the goal is met or a limit is hit.
The engineering problems are error recovery, loop detection, cost control and deciding which actions need human confirmation. Anything that spends money or sends a message should be gated.
